Today is Veterans Day, which marks anniversary of the end of hostilities in the Great War, now known as World War I. An armistice in the war went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, and the following year President Wilson proclaimed that November 11 would be celebrated as Armistice Day, a day to honor the veterans of the Great War.
