Book Review -- Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation by John Carlin
I recently enjoyed the audiobook version of Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation by John Carlin, the compelling story of Mandela rallying the newly democratic South Africa around the country's national rugby team, the Springboks, in order to reconcile the races and create a new South African identity after the end of apartheid. I have been interested in South Africa since undergraduate school, so I really enjoyed the story. There is a movie version, Invictus, with Morgan Freeman as Mandela, which I will borrow from our local library in the near future. The New York Times has a review of it here.
