Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

On December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan launched a surprise attack on the United States Navy and its facilities at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. President Franklin D. Roosevelt requested a declaration of war from Congress the next day, calling December 7 "a day which will live in infamy." Congress obliged, and the United States entered World War II on the side of the Allied Powers.
