In early 1776 British forces held Boston. American General George Washington was in command of American troops besieging the city. At the suggestion of Colonel Henry Knox, the
cannon Knox had transported to Boston from Fort Ticonderoga were positioned on Dorchester Heights
during the night of March 4, 1776. Faced both with the armaments and a snow storm, the British abandoned the city. Pictured is the monument commemorating the event.
