Sarah spent the night at her friend Grace's house last night. Before we went to pick her up, Sherry and I drove up to Look Rock and hiked the campground and the fire tower. The campground, one of my favorites in the Smokies, fell victim to the dysfunction in Washington, D.C., several years ago and is closed and forlorn.
There has been a wildfire burning in the neighborhood this week, and this fire information flier and map were posted at the foot of the fire tower and at the boarded up ranger station at the campground.
This is the view looking south from the fire tower toward Mount LeConte.
This is the view looking north. Note the pollution hanging over the valley.
